Toothbrush Experts is written and run by Susan and Pete Volk — a husband-and-wife team with a combined 45+ years in the dental industry, on both the clinical and business sides.

Susan is a Registered Dental Hygienist with more than 20 years of clinical and industry experience. Her background includes roles at Colgate-Palmolive, Hu-Friedy, and Benco Dental, and since 2021 she’s worked hands-on in private practices and DSO environments. Pete has spent more than 25 years on the business side of dentistry, advising dental groups across North America on office design, clinical infrastructure, and practice valuation. He’s the founder of the Dental Strategy Institute, which has published 12+ books and 7+ analytical tools addressing the business side of dental practice — the plain-language resources he noticed clinicians navigating M&A, exit strategy, and office buildouts almost never had. That same instinct led him to build DentalAssetIQ, an AI-powered equipment valuation platform — often described as “the Kelly Blue Book for dental equipment” — that gives practices, DSOs, and M&A advisors instant fair-market valuations instead of $2,500–$7,500 traditional appraisals. Outside dentistry, Pete has also built CrossConnectHub, software for backflow-testing businesses — a reminder that his eye for cutting through vendor noise and building tools people actually need isn’t limited to one industry. He brings that same approach to evaluating oral care products here.
