So, the #1 question… Does the BURST Toothbrush work? Overall, the toothbrush, at first glance, looks VEEERRRY similar to the Philips Sonicare. I mean, scary similar. If I had to guess, i would say that the same (or very similar) factory is making all of the parts and sub-assembly’s for both companies. Philips Sonicare has spent a lot of money making sure it’s vendors use good parts and electronics. This means that the BURST Electric Toothbrush is getting quality parts too.
The BURST is similar to the Philips Sonicare in a couple of other ways as well. First, it has three available cleaning modes: sensitive, whitening and massage.
Second, it has a toothbrush head with bristles infused with Japanese charcoal. You may have seen videos of people brushing with charcoal, but PLEASE, please do not brush with the charcoal from your grill! In an attempt to navigate the confusing path of teeth whitening, people are trying lots of things.
Although, activated charcoal is said to increase whitening effectiveness, the ADA says there just isn’t any (or enough) research to agree with this claim. That said, bristles impregnated with activated charcoal aren’t going to hurt you, but it is probably more of a marketing ploy than an actual tooth whitening solution.
The bristles are noticeably softer than some of the Burst toothbrush counterparts out there. We believe this is why the bristles get in between the teeth and under the gums better than some of the other offerings. More about this in the “Corn Challenge” below.
Finally, much like the Philips Sonicare and Oral-B’s of the world, the BURST includes the must-have features of today’s electric toothbrushes: It includes a 2 minute timer with a 30-second quadrant pause to tell you when to move from quad to quad.
